Qiviut - Treasure of the Arctic.
The coarse outer coat of the Musk-Ox sheds the ice and snow, and conceals a soft dense wool called Qiviut. Qiviut is the warmest, lightest wool in the world and can be made into incomparably soft garments. This luxurious fiber has a diameter of only 12 microns, low lanolin content and a smooth texture that allows it to be worn next to the skin. You have to put these hats on to appreciate the incredible softness and lightness of this wool. Qiviut is available in very limited quantities and final products needs to be ordered well in advance. The Knitted Double Black hat is hand made in Poland. It takes tremendous effort to make this double hat since the yarn is very fine. The qualities of this hat have to be experienced to be believed. The Round Felt hat is hand stitched with buffalo wool yarn. The felt is also hand made in Canada from 85% Muskox wool and 15% merino wool. Merino wool is added because Muskox wool itself doesn't felt very well. You can walk in snow or rain and enjoy the waterproofness of this hat. |
